Aoife studied geology at University College Dublin and was lucky to have a head of department who had actually worked as a petroleum industry professional and was still passionate about the Oil and Gas industry and its challenges. It was he who fired Aoife’s ambition and set her on a career which she’s pursued with enthusiasm ever since. Joining Senergy has continued that passion. The chance to work with people who have twenty or more years experience and yet who always listen to and value her opinion has been a revelation, and the diversity of the teams she’s been part of and the variety of the projects they’ve worked on just keeps renewing her interest and pleasure in what she does. At home, her parents’ hard work and sacrifices on her behalf have also continued to be inspirational.
Her ideas on business practices are evident in her admiration for the late Anita Roddick, founder of the Body Shop chain. Her determination to create and pursue practices which offered quality, fair trade products to the customer was matched only by her commitment to leading effective, world-changing campaigns on environmental and human rights issues.
Aoife is a highly social and outgoing individual. She particularly enjoys live music gigs and is full of praise for the excellent music venues in Aberdeen. The energy she brings to work is also evident when she’s on the dance
floor and, perhaps surprisingly, when she goes to her regular lessons in African drumming. This is exactly the sort of attitude that sits well at Senergy, where the life/work balance is seen as crucial to people’s overall well-being.
Senergy has also been very supportive of her personal aspirations and she has been given permission to take several months leave to work voluntarily in an orphanage in Moshi, Tanzania.
When asked what her dream job might be, she’s disarmingly honest and confesses that she’d love to be a drummer in a famous rock and roll band. But she’s realistic enough to know that a more achievable and perhaps more appropriate option is to become a senior geoscientist with Senergy.
